Benefits of Writing Your Own Content
WebFox: Website Designer in Fort Erie
While I may not be the most famous blogger on the planet—I know a thing or two in my years of experience. I love writing as much as I love cheese.
I write for fun, business, and to improve myself. Content is a key part of this and a key part of my life. Content grows the businesses I work for or own myself.
In my professional experience, I cannot recommend strongly enough that you write your own content. While you may have a few excuses ready about why you can’t do it; I’m going to tell you why you can—and should.
1: Your Voice is Yours
What are you creating with your content? A brand, a name, a service, anything? No one can truly understand what you are thinking. Your mom can’t, your best friend can’t—even your twin can’t.
Your style is unique to you, as much as no two snowflakes are the same, as well as fingerprints.
There are many styles of writing that you can think of:
- Rude
- Personal
- Formal
- Professional
- Scholarly
- Funny
- Intimate
Not to mention combinations of these and many more. As a website designer in Fort Erie, I tell every client I work for to create their own voice for their content to really put their stamp on their business. It may be relatively cheap to outsource the work, but it’s beneficial.
Creating your voice will allow you to connect with the audience you want to connect with.
2: Authenticity is Important
Whether you’re writing for yourself or having someone else do it; remember one thing: your content is your brand. Everything you do can help or hurt your brand.
Whether it’s posting pictures, citing sources, tweeting, content, or anything else; it affects how people view your business, person or service.
Writing content creates a presence for you, which in turn allows you to grow your brand. You can’t really build this unless the content you write is related to your business.
How are people finding your website? Usually through recommendations or searching for specific keywords related to your industry.
Once they’re there you need to leave an impression. Coming across as authentic is hugely important for this. At the very least if hiring a ghostwriter or secondary person to write—make sure your ideas are going into your brand.
3: Speak to Your Audience
Writing content gives you two main benefits. The first is giving value to your audience. They connect with what you’re writing and learn something new. Secondly, the content delivers to you what your audience needs. You learn from your audience in an interactive way. Which content of yours is popular, what is not?
Before you can write you need to research, so you yourself are also growing and learning from the experience alone.
The best way to speak to your audience is to write something you’re passionate about and help your audience become passionate about that same thing. Try to find out their needs and help them achieve their goals from visiting your content.
4: Respond to Your Audience
If I speak to my audience, I’m doing a good job. If I respond to them, I’m doing a great job.
Whether it’s through social media, comment pages at the bottom of your blogs, or any other method—responding to what your audience is talking about is fantastic.
The key to marketing content is not just writing—but listening and interacting as well. How did the biggest brands grow to where they are now? They listened to the demand and filled it.
Sometimes, you’ll really have a great audience who basically write your content for you by telling you what they want—but even if you’re a beginner you must grow your brand partly through audience response.
Keep in mind, it’s not going to be easy to respond if you’re not writing your own content.
5: Follow Current Trends
Are you going to read my post if I post about the best cooking recipes using your World War 2 government rations? Probably not. It happens frequently that a business owner loses touch with their audience because they’re focused on running the business and not on maintaining the clientele.
It’s understandable, running a business is difficult work. It’s important to remember the things that make businesses successful.
Writing is the absolute best way to stay on top of things. It gives you insight into what other businesses in your field are doing, what customers are looking for, and how to make yourself evolve and stand out in the pack.
In the end, being current will let you not only stay on top of trends; but set new trends yourself.
6: Learn Content Marketing
As a Fort Erie website designer, I find content marketing to be of the utmost importance. There are not a lot of local businesses on top of this, which allows the ones that are to walk ahead of their competition.
Every business owner or leader needs to learn about content marketing. When you’re doing the research, you learn about many issues that let you reach your audience, as well as stay ahead of the competition.
It’s one of those things that you need to do to understand. Trust me.
Conclusion
I strongly recommend to any business owner reading this blog to produce their own content. It’s the only way to become an industry leader and truly understand your core audience. You’ll find a new appreciation for what you do and how you interact with your audience.
Writing content doesn’t need to be difficult. You can use people to help with brainstorming, editing, or publishing your content. Just make sure you are the one with the biggest say. Choosing important words and tone to build your brand.
You don’t need to professional—you need to be you. If you’re starting from the bottom, the fastest way to climb the ladder is with your own two feet.
