How to Create the Best Blogs in your Niche
WebFox: Niagara Web Design
Content marketing was once an uncommon thing in the world of Niagara web design. Now every company does it, and it makes a huge impact on their business.
Now content marketing is a very complex thing with tonnes of options available at your fingertip in every direction. No matter what you’re interested in, there’s going to be associated content.
While it is very complex, blogging is still a very popular form of content marketing. The better your blog, the better your results.
In my opinion—having the best blog in your market will allow you to have the biggest success in your market. If blogging is the most successful content marketing, it’s only natural that the best blog will get the best results.
Here’s the kicker: You can be the best blogger in your market. I’ll give you a few tips today to be the best in your market.
1: Know the Audience
What’s the most important question you need to answer? “Who is my audience?”
Many times, when blogging, people will try to answer wrong questions such as
How can I be interesting?
What should I write?
How can I get higher engagement?
They’re good questions but don’t matter if you don’t know your audience.
You should blog for someone, not about something. When you’re writing for a specific type of person, it’s easy to find things to write about. You’ll have a more natural and human feel which will be of great help.
On top of this big question, ask a few follow ups.
What is my relationship with the readers?
What does my audience already know?
Will my audience agree or disagree with what I say?
What will the reader use the information for?
The more you know your audience, the easier it gets.
Remember though, your audience is smaller than you think.
Traffic doesn’t necessarily mean engaged readers. Most people are just going to skim and leave. Your readership are the people who scroll and read the entire article. The skimmers aren’t who you should be writing for.
It’s ok, you can build your audience.
Even though your blog is small, and your readership is low; you can grow it.
The more you blog, the more you’ll understand your audience. You’ll know what they love, what they hate, and what keeps them coming.
In short, you should learn about your audience and figure out how to write content for them.
2: Consistency
You aren’t going to be successful with inconsistency.
It’s easy to talk about and hard to accomplish.
What does that mean? You’ve got to wake up every day and write a bit. You must find the sources to support your claims. You’ve got to find the topics that interest your niche. You’ve got to do the boring grindy things every day.
How often should you be blogging then?
Instead of giving you the answer—I’ll direct you to a previous point. Know your audience. Is my audience in Niagara web design going to want daily blogs 365 days a year? Probably not. If your market is financial advice, then probably.
As a rule of thumb, I would target at least one blog per week.
It’s statistically proven that consistent postings have more traffic.
You also create back content every time you post something. Your older posts are still floating around and attracting new readers all the time. The more back content you have, the more potential you have to direct someone towards your blog.
3: Transparency is Important
Transparency has a human touch that will put you at the top of your market—guaranteed.
Transparency is difficult to manage. In blogging, you’ve got to be careful in how you’re using it. You don’t want to be giving trade secrets away, for example. If you’re landscaper for example, you shouldn’t be posting “the top 5 ways landscapers scam you” as a blog. Don’t share too many personal details that tell people where you live and what your schedule is either.
The best advice I’ve been given is as follows:
Tell stories that show your vulnerabilities and open-mindedness.
Make sure you’re respecting your own confidentiality, as well as others’.
Be transparent to help others, not just for the sake of being transparent.
Transparency will allow you to have a more engaging blog that creates true readers. In my experience, the bloggers with the most personal disclosure are the most successful.
Grammar is important sometimes. In your articles is not one of those times.
Incomplete sentences are ok.
Starting your sentences with conjunctions is ok.
I majored in English and know a thing or two about grammar. But I also know that effective communication is more important than the rules of grammar. If I need to break a rule or three doing this—I’m gonna do it.
Don’t intentionally make your writing bad or neglect editing. But don’t be afraid to throw some slang where it makes sense to your audience.
Conclusion
Your writing skills are likely not the most important factor in taking over your niche. There are more important things.
1: Knowing your audience
2: Showing consistency
3: Being transparent
These techniques will allow you to take over your competition and find success.
